The Intercape bus liner company has been receiving strong condemnation from social media users following the tragic accident that left nine people dead and 45 others injured in Alma road in Welkom on Monday.

Some on Facebook say the company needs to take full responsibility, with OFM News’ Lucky Nkuyane reporting other social media users accused the bus drivers of the company in general of several instances of negligent- and reckless driving.

The accident left four women and three children dead on the scene, while the male driver allegedly responsible for the accident reportedly hanged himself 300 meters away from the scene.

In 2018 the company was also criticised after another shocking bus accident left South Africans and Zimbabweans reeling from the accident that claimed the lives of at least 9 people and left 51 others injured when the driver lost control of the bus on the N1 highway en route to Gauteng.

Yesterday the InterCape bus company told OFM News that it had dispatched its senior officials to assist in the investigation of the deadly bus crash.

The company’s media communication officer, Pieter Louw, said following the accident the company has since established a crisis centre to help and assist with the matter. The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) also entered the fray of those who probing the circumstances behind the crash.

RTMC spokesperson, Simon Zwane, says its officials were already on the ground in an effort to help and assist law enforcement agencies currently investigating a case of culpable homicide.

Also on Monday the provincial Department of Police, Roads and Transport sent its condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased and injured.
